NEWS CONFERENCE IN PROGRESS STORY: "I can pay for his funeral," WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder quipped on Thursday (May 16), promising a fight for the ages against mandatory challenger Dominic Breazeale. The two fighters faced off for fans and the media ahead of their Saturday (May 18) match in Brooklyn, with underdog Breazeale vowing to end Wilder's career. "I'm Deontay Wilder's retirement plan," Breazeale said. "When I'm done with him, the mental aspect of boxing is going to be completely beat out of him." Wilder (39-0-1) fought to a split decision draw against Briton Tyson Fury in Los Angeles in December last year - a fight that did not impress Breazeale. "You're going to see an old school type of fight style man - gonna bring the Riddick Bowe, and the Lennox Lewis, the Mike Tyson style back and give the fans what they want to see," Breazeale (20-1) said. When you come to the heavyweight belt, you don't want to see guys slapping, exchanging leather. What him and Tyson Fury did was a disgrace for the heavyweight division." Wilder said Breazeale's big talk would cost him. "Y'all better gather round him tonight, because come Saturday night, he may not be able to talk to you. Trust me. You know I don't play no games," Wilder said. | |||||
