Superintendent of Police B.M. Laxmi Prasad has ordered an inquiry into an allegation against Circle Inspector of Police (CPI), Bantwal, Sharan Gowda, and Vitla Assistant Sub-Inspector Dhananjaya that they forced a person to sign a document to withdraw a criminal case.
In a complaint to Mr. Prasad, Keshava Moorthy C. said he filed a case in December 2018 under the Negotiable Instruments Act before a magistrate court in Puttur against Gurushivadutt after a cheque by him for ₹55,822 got dishonoured.
Mr. Moorthy had also filed a complaint before the Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum against Rajendra Kuppetti for allegedly collecting money in the name of mid-brain activation for children. Gurushivadutt filed a complaint with the Vitla police on May 7 accusing Mr. Moorthy of cheating him of ₹60,000.
In the complaint, Mr. Moorthy alleged that Mr. Gowda and Mr. Dhananjaya called him for inquiry on May 7 and forced him to sign a document stating his agreement to withdraw the cases filed in the Puttur court and also in the consumer forum.
Mr. Prasad said he has asked the Assistant Superintendent of Police, Bantwal, to inquire into the allegation.
