The Fraternity Movement staged a unique protest here on Wednesday by holding a class on the street, daring the scorching sun of Ramzan fasting season.
The protest was against what it termed the governments’ discriminatory stance towards Malappuram district in the sphere of education.
The protesters pointed out that more than 20,000 students who passed SSLC examination would not get a seat for higher education in Malapuram district.
This happened when higher secondary seats lie vacant in some southern districts in the State. “This is discrimination. And this should end,” the protesters said.
The protesters pointed out that 40 government and aided high schools in the district were yet to be upgraded to higher secondary.
“These schools should be given higher secondary batches. The government should find a permanent solution for the higher secondary seat shortage in the district.”
The Fraternity Movement has warned of an agitation by parents and students if the government did not heed to the demand for sufficient higher secondary seats in the district.
Fraternity district president K.K. Ashraf inaugurated the street class.
Students who passed SSLC from different parts of the district attended the street class held under the banner of the Fraternity Movement’s cultural forum named Creative Production.
