When the Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT) launched the ‘Super 60’ programme a few months back, officials were unsure about its success. However, 46 of the 53 students under the programme secured a GPA above 9 in the SSC examination whose results were declared on Tuesday.
N. Vamsi Kumar (the Thambuvanigunta school), S. Soujanya (the Malavyaji school), A. Kavya and C. Madhavi (the Korlagunta school) and Y.Akshitha (the Satyanarayanapuram school) secured a 10 GPA.
‘Others not ignored’
The programme was conceived to identify 60 performing students at MCT-run schools and nurture them as part of a special residential training programme. The programme was extended to a couple of students from ZP High Schools as well.
“It should not be thought that other students were ignored. They received attention through extra classes,” MCT Commissioner V. Vijay Rama Raju told reporters on Tuesday.
As many as 467 of the 515 students at MCT-run schools passed, taking the pass percentage to 91. And 92 students scored a GPA of 9 and above. Meanwhile, the MCT’s only Urdu school in the city registered a 100% pass percentage.
While 45 students of Dr.Kishore’s Ratnam School secured a 10 GPA, 23 secured a 9.8, said principal T. Purushotham Reddy.
As many as 37 of the 110 students of the Red Cherries School got a 10 GPA. Thirteen got a 9.8, 14 got a 9.7, 16 got a 9.5 and 94 scored above a 9, said the school’s Director N. Sunil Kumar Reddy. Eight students of the Srikalahasti-based ‘The School’ secured a 10 GPA, while seven got a 9.8 and 40 got a 9, according to its Director Janardhan Rao Pawar.
