Thiruvananthapuram: ‘Mathruyaanam’ project, which facilitates free transport for mothers and new born babies from government hospitals to their homes, was launched in the district on Tuesday.
The project was launched by Dr Divya Sadasivan, superintendent of district hospital, Neyyattinkara, and Dr P V Arun, manager of district health programme, by flagging off the first vehicle carrying a new born and mother, at Neyyattinkara.
Raji and her baby from Pulluvila were the first beneficiaries of the project.
‘Maathruyaanam’ is a part of the Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakaram (JSSK) project under the National Health Mission.
“The scheme was introduced at the district hospital, Neyyanttinkara, under the first phase. It will be introduced in Chirayankeezhu Taluk Hospital by the end of this month,” said by Dr Arun.
