COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore city police on Thursday arrested a 26-year-old man for murdering his friend during a drunken brawl near Singanallur on Wednesday night.
The victim has been identified as M Suppan, 28, a native of Mysore who was staying at his relative's house in Singanallur and working as a sanitary worker. The accused has been identified as N Sakthivel alias Kathirvel, a resident of Neelikonampalayam on the outskirts of the city.
Around 9:00pm on Wednesday, Kathirvel and Suppan were walking down the street after consuming alcohol. An argument broke out between them, and it slowly turned into a fight. The accused picked a
stone and smashed the head of Suppan with it.
Passersby alerted 108 ambulance service, and Suppan was rushed to Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital where he died within a few hours.
The Singanallur police registered a case under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and arrested the accused.
