Supercars opens control damper tender

Supercars has opened a tender for a sealed, control damper that could be introduced as soon as next season.

The series' official website has published an Invitation to Tender for a single damper supplier for 2020-2024.

According to the document, "the governing body of Supercars Australia is looking to introduce a control damper from a single supplier as soon as the start of the 2020 season that will achieve higher mileage than current units and be sealed."

It also reveals that both two and four-way adjustable dampers will be considered, that the service life is more than 7500 kilometres, and that the supplier will need to be able to provide support at events.

The tender closes on June 5.

There's no guarantee that a control unit will be introduced, however, with the tender document adding "the selection of the winning bidder will be at Supercars’ complete discretion. Additionally, there is no guarantee that a bidder will be successful."

Supercars made a significant suspension-related cost-saving measure heading into the 2019 season, with a ban on multi-spring units.

That's been largely attributed to the struggles that powerhouse team Triple Eight has endured in the early part of the season.
