A Mumbai court on Thursday deferred the hearing on the bail plea of actor
Karan Oberoi till May 17 after listening to extensive arguments from both sides.
The actor was arrested on the basis of a complaint by a woman who has accused him of rape. The woman had allegedly been in a relationship with the actor since 2016.
Oberoi's counsel Dinesh Tiwari had called the allegations in the FIR 'absurd' and said, 'at best it was something consensual that was going nowhere', adding that the text messages exchanged between the actor and the woman, a 34-year-old tantric-healer, proved that.
Seeking bail for Oberoi, his lawyer told the court that the material presented by the prosecution does not make out a case of rape and extortion.
The defence added that the investigation agency handling the case is behaving more like a recovering agency between a "boyfriend and girlfriend".
After listening to the arguments, the court posted the matter for May 17 (Friday) for further hearing.
