Xiaomi India a couple of days ago had teased the launch of another 48MP camera phone. Now, Manu Kumar Jain, Xiaomi India head, on Twitter announced the phone will be called ‘Redmi Note 7S’ and it will be launched in India on May 20th. This could the Redmi Note 7 variant with 48MP + 5MP dual rear cameras that was launched in China earlier this year; to recall, the India version comes with a basic 12MP + 2MP sensors on the back. The primary rear camera aside, the Redmi Note 7S is expected to have the same specifications as the Redmi Note 7.
To recall, the Redmi Note 7 packs a 6.3-inch full-HD+ display with a waterdrop-style notch up top and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 layer. The handset is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 SoC clocked at 2.2GHz octa-core processor with Adreno 512 GPU. The phone comes in two variants — 3GB RAM + 32GB and 4GB RAM + 64GB. However, it isn’t clear how many variants of the Redmi Note 7S will be made available in India. It boots the latest Android 9.0 Pie-based MIUI 10 out of the box. A 4,000mAh battery with 18W fast charging support fuels the phone.
In terms of optics, the handset rocks dual rear camera setup that comprises a 48-megapixel (f/1.8) primary shooter, paired with a 5-megapixel depth-sensing sensor and LED flash. The cameras also boast pixel-binning tech and AI for better shots. As for the selfies, the handset relies on a 13-megapixel sensor housed at the tiny cut-out atop the display. It has a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor for biometric security. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, IR Blaster, 3.5mm headphone jack, USB Type C, and GPS.
