Criminal injured in encounter, nabbed

KANPUR: A criminal, wanted in around 12 cases, who carried a reward of Rs 25,000 on his head, was injured and nabbed in an encounter in Chakeri area of the city on Tuesday night.
When a police team laid a siege in Chakeri, the motorcycle-borne criminal opened fire. In the retaliatory action, the criminal, identified as Pawan Soni alias Builder was injured. He is a resident of Barra area of the city and a native of Rae Bareli. A .315 bore pistol and several live catridges were recovered from him. His accomplice managed to escape, said the police.
Pawan, who sustained bullet injuries as been admitted to Kanshiram Trauma Centre in Rama Devi, Chakeri, where his condition is said to be stable. Search operation is underway to arrest his aide, said a police officer. SP (East) Raj Kumar Agarwal said the criminal is wanted in 12 cases of crime.
