LUCKNOW: A hindi MA (IV) year-student resident of Sir PCB hostel in Allahabad University was arrested by Uttar Pradesh Special task Force (UPSTF) for murder of a former student leader on Thursday.
The miscreant arrested was identified as Abhishek Yadav alias Navneet and was carrying a reward of Rs 25,000. He was arrested on informer’s-tip off from roadways bus stop in Allahabad. A .315 bore country made pistol was also recovered from his possession.
On April 15, Abhishek Yadav along with his hostel inmates-Adarsh Tripathi,Himanshu Singh, Saurabh Upadhayay and others had killed a former student leader- Rohit Shukla (30) over commission from a Varanasi-based contractor who was constructing an activity center in GN Jha hostel premises.
Senior Superintendent of police (STF) Abhishek Singh said that Shukla had demanded Rs 4 lakh commission from Varanasi-based contractor who was constructing an activity center in GN Jha hostel on the university campus and also threatened for stopping any activity until the former’s demand was fulfilled.
However, the issue did not go down well with Adarsh Tripathi, of Sir PCB hostel and he forced to stop the ongoing construction.
“As a result the issue snowballed and it reached to former jailed student leader Abhishek Singh alias Michael, who instructed both Shukla and Tripathi to negotiate and not to prove a hindrance in the ongoing construction,” said Singh.

Thereafter, a meeting between aides of Shukla and Tripathi was scheduled on the premises of Sir PCB hostel on April 15. “Unfortunately, an altercation broke out between Shukla and Tripathi during the meet where Yadav opened firing at Shukla, while the aides of Shukla fled as they were outnumbered inside the hostel,” said the officer.
“We are interrogating Yadav, to know how he got access to firearm, while others named by victim’s father in this case were arrested by the Colonelganj police,” further added Singh.
