Vadodara: Even as a committee appointed by M S University is continuing its probe in the exam answer sheet scandal, it has come to light that a similar incident had occurred at the university campus before 12 years.
Going by the way in which the present scandal has unfolded and the details of the earlier scandal, it seems the university has hardly learnt any lessons.
Like the present case that surfaced last week, a peon who was hired on daily wages by the university, was involved in pilfering answer books from the central assessment cell and handing them to students.
Sources suggest that a peon named Jagmohan Nayak was caught red-handed before 12 years when he was trying to pilfer answer books from the cell. Nayak used to fold answer sheets, hide them inside his shirt and later hand them over to students at a price.
Nayak had also confessed before the then university officials that he used to charge Rs 150 per answer sheet from the students. The two peons who are accused in the present case used to charge Rs 800 to Rs 900 per answer sheet from the hostel students.
Also, like the present case, Nayak too used to reside in the chawl located near the boys hostel campus of the Halls of Residence and near the canteen. Old timers suggest that the university did remove Nayak after he was found guilty of the crime but just removing a temporary daily wager has hardly deterred others.
