Udupi:
Chandrasekhar Mogera, 30, the
brother of one of the
missing fishermen was
hospitalized here on Tuesday, four days after he
attempted suicide in
Bhatkal. Ramesh Mogera was on board the Suvarna Thribhuja, the fishing vessel that went missing in December. The Navy located the wreckage of the vessel 35 km off Malvan coast in Maharashtra on May 1. Ramesh was the sole breadwinner of the family and had six siblings.
Nagaraj, Chandrashekhar's brother said, “My brother's action is shocking. We are still to come to terms with Ramesh’s loss. Had we known Chandrashekhar had consumed poison, we would have sought help immediately. I don’t know how to cope with all this grief.’’
After news came of the wreckage being found filtered in, Ramesh’s old parents fell sick. His mother is bedridden and father is still in a state of shock. Chandrasekhar, who is also a fisherman, has not gone fishing since May 1. He was diagnosed with depression and consumed poison five days ago but the family was unaware of it. They thought he was ill. He was hospitalized on Tuesday when he got very sick by which time the poison had damaged his liver.
From Bhatkal government hospital, he was rushed to Udupi for further treatment. “Four days ago, he had consumed poison and he did not seek medical help. There is internal bleeding which has damaged his kidneys” said DGS Chandrashekhar of Adarsh Hospital.
