OnePlus had teased a 5G variant of a OnePlus prototype device at the Mobile World Conference.
OnePlus has launched the OnePlus 7 Series globally. The OnePlus 7 series comprises of a standard OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro that was unveiled in India, alongside three other countries. OnePlus has introduced a 5G variant of the OnePlus 7 Pro in the United Kingdom. The 5G variant, which was built in partnership with Qualcomm is currently exclusive to the country’s telecom operator EE. OnePlus has presently not announced the release date or price of the 5G variant, but at its event in London, it has confirmed the launch of 5G-ready OnePlus 7 Pro later this year in the UK.
Pete Lau, CEO, OnePlus at the event stated that the company had been working closely with Qualcomm and EE since the past two years. The OnePlus 5G looks exactly the same on the outside but has many internal changes. The company has adopted a stacked PCB design, expanded the cooling area by 50 percent and designed custom 5G antennas for the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G.
OnePlus had teased a 5G variant of a OnePlus prototype device at the Mobile World Conference. The company had only demonstrated the 5G-prototypre but did not reveal any design details or specifications. For a device to be 5G-compatible, it needs to run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 and X50 modem. Since the 5G variant is similar in terms of design to the 4G variant of OnePlus 7 Pro, it would have the same spec sheet with a 5G modem.
The OnePlus 7 Pro 5G would have a 6.64-inch Quad HD+ Fluid AMOLED, curved edge-to-edge display with a refresh rate of 90Hz. In terms of performance, the device would come with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 onboard coupled with an X50 modem for 5G-compatibility. The SoC could come in different RAM and storage options up to 12GB and 256GB respectively.
For the camera, the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G would have a triple camera setup comprising of a 48MP + 16MP + 8MP rear setup. At the front, it would have a 16MP pop-up camera with face unlock. There is no word on the battery, but it could share the same 4,000 mAh battery found on the OnePlus 7 Pro.
OnePlus has not announced the price of the Oneplus 7 Pro 5G. At the MWC 2019, OnePlus announced that the 5G-variant would be priced $200-300 more than the standard variant. This could possibly mean that the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G could launch for nearly $900-1,000.
