Dodge Is Working On A 797 HP Charger Hellcat Redeye

In news that probably won’t surprise many, Dodge is working on a Hellcat Redeye variant of the Charger.

Motor Trend’s Jonny Lieberman confirmed on Instagram that the Charger Hellcat Redeye is in the works but didn’t say when we can expect to see the vehicle. What we do know is that the vehicle will be based around the upcoming Charger Widebody which was first previewed in concept guise back at Spring Fest 14 in March and later spied in production guise last month.

Powering the Charger Hellcat Redeye will be the same 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine as the Challenger Redeye, complete with 797 hp and 707 lb-ft (957 Nm) of torque. This engine is enough to power the Challenger to 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 203 mph (326 km/h). We expect similar performance figures for the four-door Charger variant.

The Challenger Redeye is differentiated from the ‘regular’ Challenger Hellcat through 25 major component modifications which include a larger 2.7-liter supercharger, strengthened connecting rods and pistons, a high-speed valve train, upgraded lubrication system, and a bespoke fuel injection system. Sending power to the ground is an eight-speed automatic transmission with two final drive ratios.

At least two other variants of the upcoming Charger Widebody are thought to be in the works. The entry-level model will apparently have a 6.4-liter V8 with 485 hp and 475 lb-ft (643 Nm) of torque while the ‘standard’ Hellcat Widebody will pump out 707 hp and 650 lb-ft (881 Nm) of torque from its supercharged 6.2-liter V8.
