Back in time, people considered serving and hosting artistes, who travelled across lands, as an honour. Fast forward to centuries later, our fast-paced and busy lives have led us to undermine the relevance of the happiness these artistes bring us through their art.

“Motojojo simply means the urge to explore the unknown. It is a common spirit that exists within everyone to push beyond our limits. Through our gatherings, we bring more intimate experiences of live arts/events and travelling by combining the audience’s love for music and culture in unique locations around India. Over the world, it is said that people make friends by breaking bread together. That is what happens at Motojojo community gatherings as well — everyone brings food for themselves and shares it with the others. They talk, eat, smile and become friends. Around 40 people participate in each gathering,” says Nidhi Shah from Motojojo.
Ghumakkadi Kalakaar is Motojojo’s first-ever community-funded tour. “It’s a movement to support artistes — we’re bringing the community an opportunity to crowd-fund and support these artistes, who will be touring to different cities through our gatherings. Such gatherings will be where you can meet them and interact with them. The upcoming event in Chennai will be filled with interesting conversations, like-minded people, delightful music, soulful poetry and real travel stories by a few featured artistes,” she elaborates.
Motojojo is a platform that facilitates artistes from different backgrounds to come together and share their stories. It is a place for musicians, poets, storytellers, artists, travellers and happy people. The team has introduced a first-ever community-funded tour across the country called Ghumakkadi Kalakaar. They will be coming to Chennai on May 19 with two musicians, a poet, and a storyteller. Ahead of their visit to namma ooru, the organisers talk about how they are helping people explore the unknown through experiential art and travel.
