After the brief ban on the Chinese video app TikTok by the Indian government created a stir among its users in the country, mostly youngsters, now in a bizarre case that has come to light in the city, Wakad police have booked a 23-year-old historysheeter for allegedly posting a video on the app wielding a sword. The accused have been identified as Deepak Amba Dakhale, 23, of Nisarg Colony, Shastri Nagar, Rahatani.

According to the suo motu complaint registered by HB Gengje of Wakad police station, the accused was seen striking poses with the weapon in front of a hotel in Krushnal Road, in Kalewadi, on May 11, this year.

The accused was seen dancing to the tune of the Marathi song ‘Vadhiv Distay Rao’. The video, which was posted from the id of one Yash who is presumed to be the friend of the accused, was shared on many WhatsApp groups.

The seized weapon, which turned out to be 71.5-cm long, was bought for Rs 900 especially for the purpose of shooting the video from a local market. The film went viral on social media groups, leading to an unknown person tipping of the police on the same. Some of Deepak’s other videos include riding triples on a bike while adjusting his hair and posing to songs on valour and ‘daringness’, police officials said.

“The accused, who is a history-sheeter, seemed to have done this for leisure. Cases will be registered to curtail this from becoming a trend that might negatively influence peer groups,” said senior police inspector (Wakad) Satish Mane.

He was booked under sections of the Arms Act and Maharashtra Police Act and produced before a court that remanded him to judicial custody. The youth was also booked earlier this year for an incident of throwing acid, and in 2018 he was booked for injuring an individual using a dangerous weapon.

“Normally, within three to four days of such videos going out on groups, it reaches us. From the comments, we get to know the name and identify the areas. In this case, the offender was booked earlier as well,” said DCP zone (II) Namrata Patil.

A few months back, in a similar incident, the Pimpri-Chinchwad police had booked a historysheeter after his friend released a musical video of them giving him garlands and a grand welcome on his return from jail to Vetal Nagar, Chinchwad.
