Forest department officials seized more than 1,000 litres of illicit liquor buried in the reserved forests areas of Tirupattur division on Tuesday and interrogated those involved the activity.

A team of 21 officials conducted checks in the forest areas and patta lands adjacent to it.

They covered the areas in and around Mambakkam, Melpattu, Singarapettai Extension and Sinagarapettai West areas near Tirupattur.

Numerous complaints

Divisional Forest Officer R. Murugan and Assistant Forest Officer, R. Rajkumar ordered action on receiving numerous complaints that illicit brewing and distribution of spurious liquor was on the rise in the region.
