Surat: Police arrested a 30-year-old man in Umra police station on Wednesday for allegedly using a forged voter’s identity card to rent a house in a posh locality. The accused,
Zahir Shaikh, who belonged to minority community allegedly used a forged ID of Das Jaybabu Shankarbabu to get himself a rented accommodation at Neel Gagan Apartment at Athwa Gate.
Police arrested Shaikh, a native of Ganganagar in West Bengal, after they got information about his suspicious activities. The special operation group (SOG) detained him and during interrogation he revealed the details.
Police said that Shaikh runs a massage parlour in Gaurav Path at Pal area. “Since he had to face police actions often at his massage parlour business, he said he preferred to live incognito in a posh locality where majority of the residents were Hindus. He feared that living in minority locality may irk locals if his women employees come to his home,” a police officer said.
Meanwhile, when police contacted the owner of the apartment, they found the accused had attached his photo to a fake voter’s ID card. During questioning he revealed that he had used his friend’s ID card.
