BA student poses as IPS officer, held

Ludhiana: The police arrested a 22-year-old BA-II student for impersonating as an IPS officer in the city on Tuesday.
Assistant commissioner of police (ACP-Civil Lines) Mandeep Singh said, “A bike was stopped at a check-post near old session court chowk in the evening. Its rider flashed an ID card, saying he was an IPS officer. Smelling a rat, the on-duty cops brought the rider to me.”
During questioning, the biker told the ACP that he was an MP-cadre IPS officer of 2017 batch. “He fumbled when I asked from where he was getting training. When quizzed further, he confessed to playing a con game. He said besides IPS officer, he had forged ID cards of income tax official and Bar association member, too. He identified himself as Sukhwinder Kumar of Hazuri Bagh Colony, Bhattiya Bet, Ludhiana. He is the son of a mason.”
Three months ago when Sukhwinder was stopped at a check-post, he told the cops there that he was a trainee IPS officer. After he was given an unrestricted access, Sukhwinder came up with the idea of playing the impersonation game.
Sukhwinder, who is pursuing BA through correspondence, told the police that he would download the cards online and edit them. “After getting his picture clicked in an NCC uniform, he edited the stars and cap on it. He then used the photo on the forged card. He revealed that the fake cards helped him pass through check-posts without any questioning.”

The police are checking if he used the ID cards to commit crimes.
A case has been registered under sections 420 (cheating), 170 (personating a public servant), 465 (punishment for forgery), 467 (forgery of valuable security or will etc) and 471 (using as genuine a forged document) of the IPC.
