Governor warns BRABU officials against laxity

PATNA: Expressing his grave concern over the failure of BRA Bihar University (BRABU) in discharging its duties as per his directive, governor-cum-chancellor Lalji Tandon on Wednesday sacked some of the officials and threatened others of similar disciplinary action if the things did not improve soon.
In course of a review of the working of BRABU at Raj Bhavan here, the chancellor found that despite a clear instruction from the Raj Bhavan as many as 4,000 students could not be given their original certificates. Similarly, the ‘insensitive” officials of the university were not issuing ‘no dues’ certificates to 115 retired teachers and non-teaching staff of the university. Despite several reminders from the chancellor’s secretariat, the university has not been able to appoint 857 guest faculty against vacant sanctioned posts in the university, causing great academic loss to the students.
Tandon also took strong exception to the delay in submission of Institutional Information for Quality Assurance (IIQA) and Self Study Report (SSR) of several premier colleges, including RDS College, Muzaffarpur, RBBM College, Muzaffarpur, MS College, Motihari, M J K College, Bettiah, Jeewach College, Motipur, Samta College, Jandaha, and RSS Mahila College, Sitamarhi, till date for facilitating their accreditation by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). All colleges have to be accredited by NAAC this year, he reminded the authorities.
During review it was also observed that the university has not been able to appoint the agency for executing University Management Information System (UMIS) and the varsity would not ensure online admission of students to its various courses this year. He asked the VC to take immediate steps for implementation of UMIS and ensure implementation of online admission system in all undergraduate and postgraduate courses from the current academic session itself.
The new officers appointed on the recommendation of the chancellor include Sanskrit department teacher Manoj Kumar as examination controller, physics department teacher Anita Sharma as coordinator of college development council, Md. Naseem of botany department as inspector of colleges (science) and Pramod Kumar of Hindi department as inspector of colleges (arts and commerce).
Besides the chancellor, the meeting was attended by principal secretary Vivek Kumar Singh and BRABU vice-chancellor Amarendra Narayan Yadav, pro-VC R K Mandal and other officials.
