COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore city police on Wednesday arrested four men for brutally attacking two youths here with sickles.
The arrested men have been identified as M Sathiskumar alias Vellai Sathish, 25, B Hari alias Thiruttu Kosu, 25, T Dhanabal, 24, and R Surya, 24. All of them are residents of Ganapathy and are identified to be repeated offenders. The police have recovered five sickles and two motorcycles from them.
They attacked N Pradeep and his friend M Tamilvanan near Upplipalayam on Tuesday. The health condition of the youths, who are hospitalised, was stable, police said.
Pradeep along with two friends -- Rajesh and Prasanth -- attacked loadman R Santhoshkumar of Moore Market on April 1. The Saravanampatti police registered a case in connection with that
attack.
While Goondas Act was slapped on his friends, Pradeep had managed to obtain bail with a condition to appear before Judicial Magistrate II daily. Pradeep was exempted because case proximity – the number of cases required to register a case against a person – was less, said a police official.
“When Pradeep and his friend were returning from the court, the gang attacked them with sickles to avenge the attack on Santhoshkumar, who belongs to the Moore Market. The rivalry between the Moore Market gang and Pradeep’s Kamarajapuram gang has been going on for a long time,” said the official.
The official said that the accused had attempted to attack Pradeep a couple of days ago.
