A private financier in Attur committed suicide on Wednesday alleging mental torture by two police officers.
According to sources, V.G. Prem Kumar ran a private financial firm along with his brother Senthil Kumar at Attur.
Senthil Kumar had loaned close to ₹1.5 lakh to Rajkumar, an auto driver at various instances. Rajkumar had failed to repay the loans and when Prem Kumar and his brother asked him for the money, Rajkumar refused to pay the amount.
Allegedly, Rajkumar petitioned the rural police and filed a complaint against Prem Kumar and Senthil Kumar alleging that they abused him calling caste names.
Police reportedly registered a case against the brothers under various sections of SC/ST Act. Alleging torture by police officers, Prem Kumar committed suicide consuming poison.
Prem Kumar also recorded a video statement of his suicide note and he also listed names of persons who have to repay him loans in the video.
Prem Kumar also alleged that some functionaries of certain political parties also cheated him. The video became viral in social media.
Following the incident, Prem Kumar’s kin demanded action against the officials. Superintendent of Police S. Deepa Ganiger visited the spot and conducted enquires with officers.
