2020 BMW X6 M Hides 592 HP Behind Its Huge Nostrils

The BMW X6 M is the original high-performance crossover coupe and it’s about to enter its third-generation.

While we’ve seen a handful of prototypes over the past few months, the camouflage is starting to come off and we’re getting a better looking at the upcoming crossover.

Following in the footsteps of the X5 and X7, the X6 M adopts a brawny front fascia with a massive grille that is flanked by sweptback headlights. Further below are large air intakes with honeycomb mesh inserts.

The sporty styling continues further back as the X6 M has aerodynamic mirror caps and stylish wheels that are backed up by a high-performance braking system. The crossover also has an evolutionary greenhouse and a steeply sloping roof with a panoramic sunroof.

Continuing to the rear, we can see two tailgate-mounted spoilers and a four-tailpipe sports exhaust system. The camouflage does a pretty good job of hiding the design, but a couple of undisguised photos surfaced back in March.

Previous spy photos have shown the cabin will largely carryover from the X5 and this means we can expect a 12.3-inch digital instrument and a 12.3-inch infotainment system. There will also be a leather-wrapped M steering wheel, carbon fiber trim and an M-branded shifter with contrast stitching.

Power will be provided by a familiar twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine. It produces 592 hp (441 kW / 600 PS) and 553 lb-ft (750 Nm) of torque in the M5 and this figure should carryover over to the X6 M.

Buyers looking for something more powerful will be able to opt for the X6 M Competition. Doing so will increase the output to 617 hp (460 kW / 625 PS), but the torque will remain unchanged at 553 lb-ft (750 Nm).

The redesigned BMW X5 debuted last summer, so the standard X6 will likely be introduced in a couple of months. The X5 M and X6 M should follow shortly after that.
