JORHAT: The first wave of floods hit three upper
Assam districts of Charaideu,
Dibrugarh and
Tinsukia on Tuesday, affecting about 9,000 people.
According to a report from the Central Water Commission (CWC), the Brahmaputa is flowing above the danger mark at Neematighat and the water level was rising till Tuesday afternoon. "The Brahmaputra is flowing above the danger mark at Neematighat as per reports received at 3 pm on Tuesday," said a CWC official in
Jorhat.
Deputy commissioner (Majuli) Deba Prasad Misra said, "Restrictions will be imposed on the Kamalabari-Neematighat and Afolamukh-Neematighat ferry routes on Wednesday morning if the situation remains unchanged in the next 12 hours."
Sapekhati and Sonari in Charaideu, Chabua in Dibrugarh and Doomdoma in Tinsukia have been been hit by the deluge.
