Ghaziabad: A sub-inspector posted at Ghaziabad’s all-woman police station has been
suspended for allegedly seeking a bribe of Rs 1 lakh for removing Section 328 (causing hurt by means of poison, etc., with intent to commit an offence) of the IPC from an FIR.
The SI has been identified as Preeti Garg. Anuj Sharma, a native of Muzzafarnagar, filed a complaint in the case at the SSP’s office.
Sharma has been fighting police cases filed by his wife for the past one year. Ever since, the difference arose between him and his wife, he has been living in Modinagar.
According to a senior police officer, a year back, Sharma’s wife had consumed sleeping pills in large numbers and was admitted to a hospital in a serious condition. Subsequently, his wife’s parents filed a complaint against him, which was transferred to the all-woman police station. Two months back, the probe was handed over to Garg, who allegedly started pressurising him to pay Rs 1 lakh for removing IPC section 328 from the FIR.
SSP Upendra Kumar Agrawal said during preliminary probe, the SI was found guilty of seeking bribe and was suspended. “A detailed inquiry is being conducted and departmental action will be taken accordingly,” he said.
