Eastern Ranges forward Cody Hirst has attracted interest from at least four clubs ahead of the AFL mid-season draft to be held on Monday May 27.

The Blues, who currently hold the first selection in the draft, are understood to have met with Hirst as part of their due diligence as they eye off a bunch of potential candidates to join their list for the second half of the season.

The wiry forward/wingman was overlooked in last year's national and rookie drafts after a shoulder and knee injury restricted his capacity to play in 2018 but he has been in good form playing as a top age player for the Eastern Ranges this season where he is considered a clever player.

Most observers consider Hirst would be a long term prospect attractive to clubs looking to jump into the draft pool ahead of this year's national draft in order to secure a player who would benefit from six months in the system while the club has the chance to assess their prospects.

Carlton have been linked to several players for the mid-season draft including Coburg's dynamic small forward Sam Lowson but clubs are being very cautious in revealing their hand ahead of the draft, particularly with their draft order yet to be finalised.

Like many clubs the Blues are still in the process of considering the number of picks they use in the draft.

Other players considered likely prospects include Kyle Dunkley (who played for the Western Bulldogs VFL team on Sunday), Mitch Riordan and Josh DeLuca.

Hirst's Eastern Ranges have a bye this week before Vic Metro try outs so will not have a chance to play ahead of the mid-season draft, which is being re-introduced for the first time since 1993.
