Yogi plays religious card

Seeking to play the religious card, on Wednesday alleged that the government tried to ban Puja to accommodate procession.

"The whole country, including Uttar Pradesh, observed puja and together. No violence took place in my state as I had given prior warning to people. Why could not do the same? here is very undemocratic. I am sure that after May 23, a nationalist government will be formed and will rule West Bengal," he said.

Later addressing a press conference, said Banerjee was against idol worship and had attempted to ban Puja twice which she could not succeed.

Adityanath's statement came just days before nine seats are scheduled to go to polls in on May 19. The counting of votes will take place on May 23.
