Ludhiana: After the ‘each one, bring one’ policy, the education department has now started with ‘each one, adopt one’ policy, where government teachers are told to adopt school children, who would be given more attention. The teachers will act as their mentors, and can review their progress in all subjects. This initiative has just been introduced in a meeting, where teachers from 61 government schools that have shown 100% result in Class X were called to receive appreciation letters. It is pertinent to mention that last year, only one school had 100% result in the Class X PSEB exams.
The meeting was conducted by Subhash Mahajan, deputy state project director (Punjab), along with Swaranjit Kaur, district education officer (secondary). They had asked for the initiatives taken by teachers at a personal level to improve the results in board examinations. The teachers had spent extra time during the morning assembly and after-school hours. The meeting was divided into two parts and continued for seven hours. One session of 30 schools was taken from 10am-2pm, and another session was taken from 2-5pm at Malwa Khalsa Senior Secondary School, Model Gram, Kochar Market.
Kaur credited the efforts to the teamwork of teachers, and motivated them by saying: “Last year, only one school had 100% result, but this year, 61 schools have shown 100% success stories. All this can be credited to the efforts and hard work of teachers.”
Mahajan said: “It is really difficult to compete with private schools, but this happiness cannot be purchased from markets. Irrespective of other things which private schools possess, Ludhiana’s government schools — even under very odd circumstances — are placed at number one in the state in both results and enrolments this year.”
Pointing to the fact that teachers have now been more focussed, and they have to follow ‘each one, adopt one’ policy, the assumptions among people about government schools will change. He said: “Actions speak louder than words. Besides, the results show Ludhiana has outshone its performance in enrolments, as more than 10,000 students have been admitted to government schools this year, as compared to last year. But micro-planning will continue, and follow-up with teachers and problems will soon be turned into opportunities for them.”
