More than 1.5 lakh devotees thronged the city to offer puja to Goddess Nadibazar Veedhi Gangamma Thalli, on the penultimate day of the week-long ‘Ganga jatara’ on Tuesday.
In the early hours, the hereditary dharmakarta of the festival and former MLA C.K. Babu and his wife C.K. Lavanya initiated the puja and performed the ‘ambali ritual’.
Until the midnight, several devotees clad in saris and veshams performed the ritual, pouring ambali into the barrels kept near the idol.
The jatara will conclude on Wednesday evening with immersion of the idol of the goddess at the Kattamanchi tank, preceded by various spectacles to entertain devotees.
Meanwhile, the Shakti temples at Obanapalle, Santhapeta, Doddipalle, Murakambattu, Girimpeta and Kondareddy Palle localities around Chittoor town witnessed jataras simultaneously.
