CPI (M) to hold awareness meetings

The Communist Party of India has planned to organise a human chain demonstration in Tiruvarur district in June to protest against the implementation of the hydrocarbon project in the delta areas.

Disclosing this to reporters at Thirukalar village in Kottur on Monday, the party district secretary V. Sivapunniyam said village panchayat-level committees would be formed to spearhead the protest by roping in the representatives of the like-minded parties. A committee was formed at Thirukalar, headed by the former village panchayat president R. Natarajan.

Mr. Sivapunniyam warned the Union and State governments not to take the human chain demonstration announcement lightly. If the government persistedthe protests would be intensified, he said.

Meanwhile, the CPI (M) plans to hold meetings from June 5 to 10 to educate the public in delta region about the hazards of the hydrocarbon project.
