AGRA: In a surprising case of ignorance, a state government primary school teacher at Jautana village in Fatehpur Sikri block of Agra district allegedly failed to say how many Hindi and English alphabets are there when asked by a local TV reporter.
The woman teacher named Pinky in a seventy-second video, accessed by TOI, purportedly claimed that she teaches Hindi, English and other subjects to students of class VI, VII and VIII.
When asked about number of alphabets in Hindi, the teachers said she knew the answer but was unable to recall it. The teacher claimed that she can write all of the alphabets.
When asked about how many alphabets are there in English, the teacher said 34, giving the wrong answer.
When contacted, school principal Bhagwati Devi refused to comment about the matter.

Kuldeep Tiwari, district coordinator, education quality, said, “This is a very serious matter. The video will be brought to the notice of higher authorities. Appropriate action will be taken to ensure interest of students.”
Talking with TOI, district general secretary of the Primary Teachers’ Association Brajesh Dixit said, “It is highly unfortunate that a teacher did not know that there are 44 alphabets in Hindi and 26 in English language. Basic education department officials hardly step out of their offices to check status of teaching and learning in schools.” He blamed corruption as the main reason behind sorry state of primary education in UP.
