Overseas jobs: police chief warns recruiters of strict action

more-in

In a bid to prevent grievances related to seeking jobs overseas, the District Police Chief (Kochi City) S. Surendran convened a meeting of representatives of all recognised overseas recruitment agencies on Monday. He said strict action would be taken against those indulging in undesirable practices.

Mr. Surendran told the recruitment agencies that they should have Indian mission-attested labour contract from the foreign country to which recruitment is held besides permission granted by the Protector of Emigrants for conduct of recruitment. Prior police permission should be obtained for holding interviews. The onus is on the agency to ensure that a candidate is selected only to the job offered to him or her.

Mr. Surendran made it clear that agencies with head offices elsewhere would only be allowed to conduct recruitment through a recognised local branch office in the city.
