Gurgaon: The Gurugram Metropolitan City
Bus Limited (GMCBL) on Tuesday launched one more route, taking the total to six. The new
route starts from Huda City Centre Metro Station and ends at
Badshapur village, and will have 14 stops. The buses will run at an interval of 15 minutes, from 6.30am to 9pm, an official said.
The route was launched by deputy commissioner Amit Khatri. According to the GMCBL official, new buses will ply via Vatika Chowk, CD Chowk, South City 2, Park Hospital, Good Earth City Centre, Mayfield Garden, Samaspur T Point, Ambedkar Chowk, Ardee City, Wazirbad, Kanhai Colony, Sector 44 and Fortis Hospital.
The bus fare on the route will be Rs 10, and the commute will be free for children under 12 years of age. “In all, six buses will run on this route,” said Ashok Bansal, joint CEO of GMCBL. Khatri who rode the bus on Tuesday said, “The expansion of the city bus service will benefit residents, and we want more people to use public transport.”
With this route, the total number of buses belonging to the GMCBL fleet has gone up to 81. Till Monday,
Gurugaman had only 75 buses running on five routes. GMCBL had launched two routes — 116 and 132 — in April. Buses plying on the route number 132 start from Ambience Mall near Delhi border and go up to Gurgaon bus stand via DLF Cyber Hub, DLF-2, IFFCO Chowk, IFFCO Chowk Metro station, Huda City Centre Metro station, South City-1, Sector 29, Gymkhana Club, Star mall, Rajiv Chowk and Civil Hospital.
Those plying on the route number 116 start from Dwarka Expressway and travel till Huda City Centre via Rajendra Park, Gurgaon railway station, Sector 5, Apna Enclave, Ashok Vihar, Old Railway Road, Laxman Vihar and Jacobpura. After receiving a poor response, GMCBL had tweaked the route number 112, which connects Ghata with Krishna Chowk in Sector 2.
The authorities are planning a 500-strong bus fleet and 25 routes in the city. In the first phase, 200 buses will be inducted on 11 routes, which include the six routes which have been launched already.
