JD(U) leader’s SUV looted from Boring Road area

PATNA: Amid heightened police movement and intensive vehicle checking drive launched in the city for the general elections, two armed criminals managed to loot JD(U)’s Darbhnaga district vice-president Tufail Ahmed’s SUV on gunpoint which was parked near another JD(U) functionary Rishi Mishra’s residence located opposite Shrirkrishnapuri police station here on late Tuesday night.
Ahmed had come to meet Mishra, who runs a popular restaurant on the ground floor of his residence here.
This is the second incident of vehicle loot from ruling party functionaries and the third incident of loot in the state capital within a span of two months. On the night of February 27, four armed criminals had looted the luxury car of JD(U) functionary Dr Sunil Kumar, an ophthalmologist, from near a mall in Patliputra. The criminals has pushed the driver of out of the car after thrashing him. Dr Sunil was watching a movie at a multiplex located in the mall when his vehicle was looted.
On the wee hours of May 5, two criminals had looted another luxury car belonging to Nalanda-based garment trader Vinit Kumar Rastogi from Exhibition road area under Gandhi Maidan police station. There also the miscreants held the driver hostage who was sleeping inside the vehicle.

Shrikrishnapuri police station SHO Angesh Kumar Rai said Tuesday’s loot took place when Ahmed’s driver Subodh Yadav was sleeping inside the SUV with the vehicle’s windows open. “Two criminals came near Subodh and stood on both sides of the SUV. One of the criminals took out a firearm and asked him to alight from the vehicle. As soon as the driver came out, the criminal fled with the SUV towards Boring Road roundabout while his another accomplice fled towards Pani Tanki. By that time, a waiter of the restaurant from where the SUV was looted, also came out, but the criminals threatened him,” the SHO said.
Meanwhile, after Tuesday’s loot, a senior police officer on Wednesday said that a gang involved in all three vehicle loot cases have been busted and one of the gang members has been arrested.
