The Nerul police have arrested a man for stalking his sister’s minor friend for close to five months.

Sameer Lahu Shinde (25), a resident of Ulwe, works as a delivery boy for a food ordering app. The 17-year-old complainant, a Panvel resident, was a friend of his sister. She would come to Nerul to attend coaching classes. “The accused would stalk her from Nerul railway station to the class,” a police officer said. According to the girl, he would grab her hand and declare that he would marry her. “The accused used to harass her to start a relationship with him,” the officer said.

The girl told her parents about the harassment on Sunday and filed a case with the police. Mr. Shinde was arrested on Monday evening from Ulwe.

The accused has claimed that the two were in a relationship a year ago, and he was pestering her to get back together. He was arrested under Section 354 (D) of the Indian Penal Code and sections of the Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences Act. The Thane court remanded him in judicial custody on Tuesday.
