Thiruvananthapuram: The suicide of Lekha and her teenaged daughter Vaishnavi at Marayamuttom near Neyyattinkara here took a dramatic turn on Wednesday with the recovery of a suicide note left behind by the two blaming the woman’s husband and his relatives for their death. Police have arrested four persons mentioned in the note for abetment of suicide.
The suicide note, purportedly written by Vaishnavi as dictated by Lekha, blamed Lekha’s husband Chandran and his mother Krishnamma for driving them to the extreme step. It also held Krishnamma’s sister Santha and husband Kashi, who lived next door, responsible for their death.
The note said Lekha had been facing torture ever since she was married into the family. Krishnamma and Santha had been badmouthing Lekha and Vaishnavi while Krishnamma had tortured Lekha for dowry and even tried to murder her, it alleged.
Lekha alleged that instead of taking her to a hospital after the poisoning, she was taken to a sorcerer. She was saved only after her family members intervened, following which Chandran and Krishnamma left her with her family. It also said quarrels were a daily affair in the house.
The note said Krishnamma often raised death threats against the duo. When the bank served an attachment notice on them, Krishnamma and Chandran did nothing to save the house and instead placed the notice on a ritual spot in the backyard of their residence and prayed. It also accused Santha and Kashi of conspiring to find a new match for Chandran.
Neyyattinkara DSP Sini Dennis said the suicide note was pasted on the wall of the room in which the two committed suicide.
