Man, 55, accused of filming himself raping schoolgirl, 7, in dance hall toilets before stabbing man who tried to stop the attack has 21 charges DROPPED

  • Alleged paedophile has several charges dropped as he faced court Wednesday
  • Anthony Sampieri faces court over alleged rape of child at Kogarah in November
  • More than 100 charges were brought against him over offensive calls to women
  • Prosecution told the court they would drop 21 charges relating to harassing calls

Several charges against an alleged paedophile who has been accused of raping a schoolgirl in a dance studio bathroom have been dropped.

Anthony Peter Sampieri, 55, has been hauled before the courts over an attack against a seven-year-old at Kogarah, in Sydney's south, last November.

Fifteen charges have been brought against him after he allegedly raped, choked and filmed the child during the attack.

Police allege Sampieri had a scalpel on him at the time and held the girl at knife point and threatened her if she screamed during the attack.

Two men later burst into the toilets to intervene, before Sampieri allegedly stabbed good Samaritan Nick Gilio multiple times in the torso and neck.

A separate 100 charges were also brought against him after making offensive phone calls to women from August, though some of those have since been dropped, the Daily Telegraph reported.

The Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions told Central Local Court on Wednesday it would withdraw 21 charges relating to the harassing phone calls.

The prosecution did not provide any reason as to why the charges were being laid off.

Even so, Sampieri - who appeared in court via videolink from Silverwater Jail - still faces more than 80 charges after allegedly making phone calls with intent to harass or menace.

While his case has been adjourned until July 10, a leading senior constable prepares to front court after he was charged with neglect of duty over one of the calls.

NSW Police said an internal investigation revealed a woman filed a complaint about an offensive call from Sampieri at St George police station on October 26.

At the time Sampieri was on parole after being jailed for raping a 60-year-old woman at knifepoint in his Illawarra home in 2012.

Had police at St George notified the parole board of the complaint, Sampieri's release could have been investigated and revoked, NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller told reporters last year.

Police suspended the leading senior constable with pay following the internal investigation.

The 31-year-old was also charged with four counts of neglecting duty.
