5 mobile ATMs to be stationed in capital city

Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday deployed micro ATMs in collaboration with Axis Bank to help people get cash easily. Most of the ATMs are still not working because of network problem and physical damage to the machines and counters.
Five micro ATMs will be used for now. The banking personnel will be stationed at vantage points such as bus stand, railway station and airports in makeshift kiosks with the machine. People can use their debit card. Once the machines approve the card, the banking personnel will dispense the cash then and there. People can withdraw minimum Rs 100 and maximum Rs 2,000 through the micro ATM in a single transaction.
Micro ATM is a GPRS-enabled device that can facilitate the customer swipe his debit card like the installed ATMs. “There will be more ATMs stationed if it becomes successful. We have asked the bank to provide more such machines till the ATM counters start functioning,” said an officer from BMC.

The micro ATM machines can also dispense cash to people on showing the Aadhar card as that is linked to the bank account. All that the banking personnel do is to authenticate the Aadhar card number. The machine can automatically approve payment. The amount dispensed will later be debited from the people’s account.
A senior bank officer said this micro ATMs will be in operational till the situation become normal. It is a progress through partnership. The Axis Bank has also partnered with BMC in many city-based projects that include various social security pension schemes involving 22,000 beneficiaries.
