Strong winds, light rain forecast today in Gurugram, air quality index moderate

Strong winds, accompanied by a drizzle on Wednesday morning provided some relief from the heat and brought the day temperature down by a degree. Wednesday’s maximum temperature was recorded at 34.8 degrees Celsius, and was around five degrees below normalfor this time of the year.

Light rain is expected on Thursday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). “Thursday is likely to be cloudy with a possibility of light rain,” an IMD spokesperson said, adding that the rainfall is a result of two successive active western disturbances that are affecting the plains of northwest India.

The minimum temperature on Wednesday too fell marginally and was recorded at 24.3 degrees Celsius. Tuesday’s minimum temperature was recorded at 23.8 degrees Celsius.

The day temperature on Thursday is expected to fall further to around 34 degrees Celsius, while its minimum temperature is likely to be around 24 degrees Celsius on Wednesday.

Friday is also likely to see partly cloudy skies, and the day temperature is supposed to be around 35 degrees Celsius, according to the IMD.

As a result of the strong winds and drizzle, air quality in the city on Wednesday was in the ‘moderate’ category. The air quality index (AQI) reading of Gurugram was recorded at 152 on Wednesday, according to the Central Pollution Control Board’s AQI monitor. The AQI on Tuesday was 112.

According to air quality experts in the city, the AQI is expected to stay in the moderate category on Thursday due to the rain, which is expected to help clear up pollutants in the atmosphere.
