New Delhi, Launching a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Congress on Wednesday said attack on its Rae Bareli Sadar legislator Aditi Singh has exposed the law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh and accused it of being a party of the criminals, for the criminals and by the criminals.
Addressing a press conference here, Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera said, “Criminal conspiracy, intimidation, violence against political opponents is the modus operandi of the BJP. Attack on UP Congress MLA Ms Aditi Singh by the BJP goons exposes law and order situation of UP under Ajay Singh Bisht Government. Modi-Shah led BJP is the party of the criminals, for the criminals and by the criminals!.”
Stating that the BJP was scared of imminent defeat in the Lok Sabha elections, the Congress leader said, “The Congress shall not be deterred by BJP’s tactics of threat, violence, intimidation and criminal conspiracies against its leaders or workers. Scared of an imminent defeat at their doorstep, the BJP is using the most reprehensible modus operandi to target its political opponents. Goondaism and violence is embedded in the character of the BJP.”
Mr Khera alleged that the attack on Ms Singh was carried out by BJP candidate from Rae Bareli Dinesh Pratap Singh’s brother Awadesh Singh.
“This is beyond condemnation and requires a full blown investigation so that Awadesh Singh and the 15 masked assailants who attacked Ms Singh’s convoy should be immediately arrested and made to face law,” he added.
Expressing concern over prevailing situation in the state, Mr Khera said, “When a MLA is attacked in broad daylight then you can very well imagine how safe would be the common people in the state. There is total anarchy in the state and after sensing their defeat in 2019 Lok Sabha polls, now BJP has resorted to such cheap tricks.”
The Congress demands that at the administration and local police should take strict action against the culprits. A judicial inquiry must be ordered which will nail the criminal conspiracy by the BJP goons, he added.
On Tuesday, the MLA was on her way to Rae Bareli from Lucknow to participate in no-confidence motion against Zila Panchayat Chief Awadhesh Singh, and had alleged that the goons of the BJP leader opened fire on her car near Modi School in Harchandpur.
A day after, an FIR was registered against six people, including BJP Lok Sabha candidate and MLC Dinesh Singh, Awadhesh Singh, Ramesh Singh, Abhishek Singh, Tera Singh, Bachcha Singh and seven unidentified people. However, no arrest has been made so far.
