Ujjain: Villagers get vocal on polls

Ujjain: Though rural populace have been affected with rapid urbanisation and migration to an extent at the same time access to education, health and marketing facilities have made them more vocal about their insights. Over 65 per cent of voters belong to rural areas and thus their voice holds significance in deciding the fate of candidates and government formation at the centre. FREE PRESS team interacted with some villagers to know which issues affect them the most during election time. “Being a farmer I realised that in Madhya Pradesh elections are about rural and urban divide. All the money gets galloped by the traders and we did not get any money. Although we love to exercise our right to vote that’s why villagers turn up more than the rich person on voting date because rich people do not get affected by any policies. So I would urge that please make many more policies related to villagers and poor people which actually benefits them in real sense.”

DINESH JAAT, 35, Mohanpura

“About 70 percent of economy is based on agriculture but the problem is that now in our country service sector is developing at the cost of others. The rates of seeds are on the rise. Anyway, we do not have any problem in trading nowadays. If we sell our goods or crops in any part of the country we get relaxation from tariffs and no tax is charged. More such policies should be formed by Modi that not only benefits us but also the common people.”

VIJAY AANJANA, 30, Bamora

“If we talk about the development of villages then undoubtedly villages have been developed at in these five years. Previously illiteracy affected family but now if there are five members then three of them will surely be educated minimum till Class XII. This spreads awareness to other villagers also which makes them aware about their rights and so they vote.”

RACHNA PATEL, 30, Fatehabad

“Being a house maker earlier we do not use to speak in front of people for our rights which had been noticed by Modi during his regime and he made different policies for women empowerment. Not only this, more girls are going to school now as compared to boys which is very favourable for our society.”

MANKUWAR PATEL, 32, Bamora

“Violence against women is decreasing by the day. This is only possible because Modi had focused on development of villages and formulated various pro-woman policies. This in turn has made women independent and confident to fight for their rights.”
