BENGALURU: Is gambling legal in the city? Jeevan Bima Nagar police think so, if an FIR they recently registered is any indication.
The FIR, registered on May 11, mentions the profession of the complainant, a plumber from Bihar, as ‘gambler’. Anil Sahani, a resident of Kodihalli, approached cops after Ravi Kumar, the youngest of his six children, was electrocuted while playing inside their makeshift shed on May 10 night. “We shifted the child to a private hospital in Indiranagar where doctors declared him brought dead. I’m filing a case of negligence against the owner of the building, contractor and engineer, holding them responsible for his death,” he wrote.

The FIR, defining Sahani’s profession as ‘gambler’, has not only reached the offices of deputy commissioner of police (east), additional commissioner of police and the commissioner of police, but also the jurisdictional 10th additional chief metropolitan magistrate court, Mayo Hall.
“The complainant is a plumber and while typing the word, the computer autocorrected it as gambler. We’re correcting the error,” DCP (east) Rahul Kumar Shahapurwad said.
