Violating the age-old rule of the narcotics mafia — never get high on your own supply — landed a 34-year-old drug peddler in the police net.
According to the Dongri police, the accused, Nazim Khan (34), a Dongri resident, was intercepted by a team of police personnel from near Sandhurst Road railway station at 9 p.m. on May 11.
The police said that Mr. Khan’s arrest was the result of intensified patrolling in their jurisdiction in light of the rising menace of drug peddling by Nigerians in Dongri and nearby areas.
Police inspector Sudhakar Kamble, Dongri police station, said, “During our patrolling at night, we saw Mr. Khan exiting the station from near the tracks and not from the station’s sole entry and exit point. This attracted our attention. On closer observation, we noticed that he was walking unsteadily and his eyes looked puffy, indicating that he was under the influence of narcotics.”
When Mr. Khan noticed the police team following him, he panicked and increased his pace. The police finally caught up with him at a petrol pump on Sardar Vallabhai Patel Road. Mr. Kamble said, “We searched the accused and found him to be in possession of 18 gm of cocaine. On questioning, he confessed to buying the drugs for his customers from Nigerian drug peddlers who operate near the station.”
Mr. Kamble said following the rise in the activities of Nigerian drug peddlers, the police have been focusing their patrolling in areas in their jurisdiction from 7.30 p.m. to 10 p.m. every day. This was found to be the peak time when hawkers and students bought their daily fix from the peddlers.
Passed on from the drug cartels in Mexico to the streets of Los Angeles, ‘never get high on your own supply’ is one of the cardinal rules of drug peddlers the world over. They encourage each other to stay sharp when transporting or peddling drugs and get their fix after the day’s work is done.
