National youth basketball tourney begins

Coimbatore: The 36th Youth National Basket Ball Championship for Under 16 Boys and Girls commenced in the city on Tuesday after a gap of 57 years.
The championship organized by the National Basketball Federation would be held at the indoor stadium of PSG College of Technology till May 21. The first day turned out to be a mixed bag for Tamil Nadu. While the girls team from Tamil Nadu beat Madhya Pradesh, the boys team lost to Haryana.
As many as 700 players belonging to 25 teams from across the country are participating in the championship in which 60 jurors from 25 states have come. The best players in the championship will be selected for the Indian team.
