Gurgaon: A day after the state went to polls, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (
GMDA) started preparations for the redevelopment of
Huda City Centre junction.
Budgeted at Rs 250 crore, GMDA, along with the traffic department, has come up with a
road diversion plan that will help
commuters avoid snarls due to the ongoing construction work.
The diversion will come into effect later this week, officials said. As per the plan, commuters heading towards Gold Souk from
Signature Towers would now have to take a left turn near
HSVP multilevel parking, move towards
MF Husain Marg and head towards
IFFCO Chowk metro station.
The u-turn near IFFCO Chowk metro station will help commuters head towards Huda City Centre traffic signal and then take a turn to Gold Souk.
The officials confirmed that the diversion is specifically for commuters travelling on the Signature Towers to Huda City centre carriageway, and it would not affect vehicles moving towards Signature Towers or any other location on the other side.
“Vehicles moving from Signature Towers towards Sector 31 and from IFFCO Chowk metro station towards Subhash Chowk will remain unaffected,” said a senior GMDA official. The department has also requested the metro officials to shut two gates of the metro station, facing the junction, till the redevelopment work is completed.
Under the redevelopment plan, the department has planned two foot-overbridges, one underpass and a flyover. The unidirectional underpass will be around 700 metres in length, constructed on the junction. This will be useful for vehicles moving towards Subhash Chowk from Signature Towers through Huda City Centre. The 270-metre-long flyover will connect MF Husain Marg with the sector road coming from signature Towers at the junction. However, the department has not revealed the details about the foot-overbridges to be built in the area.
The project received chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar’s approval during the GMDA budget meeting held in April. GMDA had floated the tender for the project, a few months back, and it is expected to take another year and a half for completion.
