THANE: A 10-year-old boy was critically injured and his elder cousin also sustained injuries when unidentified miscreants flung a
stone at their car along the Mumbra bypass highway on Saturday evening. The boy, Mohammad Saad Kamora and his cousin Adiba Amjad (15) were in their family car when the incident took place.
Amjad Khan, father of the injured girl, said that his family and that of his close relative had gone for a drive late on Friday night and were returning along the
Mumbra highway around 3am while one of their relatives was riding on a bike.
"We found that the path had been blocked with stones, possibly to waylay vehicles. As soon as the car stopped, Adbia noticed that some boys were sitting at a distance on a hill and one of them flung a stone towards them," said Khan. "The stone first hit Saad before hitting Adiba."
He said that the occupants of the car were We were scared. "We thought it was possibly a plan to rob us. Luckily, we noticed the stone and stopped our car a little behind the block... Possibly, that is why we were saved," said Khan.
The family members somehow managed to drive ahead where they said some constables were collecting money from truck drivers. "When I asked the cops for help, they were reluctant. So, I decided to take the two children to a private hospital located a bit ahead," said Khan.
Saad was critically hurt and was shifted to Sion hospital for further treatment.
The police launched a manhunt to nab the accused.
