India's biggest carrier IndiGo today announced a three-day summer sale, putting 10 lakh seats up for grabs. The IndiGo sale will be open till to 23:59 hours on May 16 and is applicable on travel between May 29 and September 28 on domestic and international routes, the airline said in a statement. On international routes IndiGo flight tickets start from ₹3,499, under this offer. With its fleet of over 200 aircraft, IndiGo operates around 1,400 daily flights and connects 53 domestic destinations and 17 international destinations.
Under this offer, IndiGo is offering Delhi-Ahmedabad flight tickets starting from ₹1899, Delhi-Bengaluru ₹2,799, Delhi-Bhubaneswar ₹2,499, Delhi-Chennai ₹3,099, Delhi-Guwahati ₹2,599, Delhi-Hyderabad ₹2,500, Delhi-Kolkata ₹2,899, Delhi-Mumbai ₹2,499 and Delhi-Pune ₹2599.
Internationally, the routes include Hyderabad-Dubai, Chennai-Kuwait, Delhi-Kuala Lumpur and Bengaluru-Male.
"With the onset of summer holidays, we are excited to announce this three-day special sale effective (from) today till May 16, 2019," IndiGo chief commercial officer William Boulter said.
IndiGo is offering attractive discounts up to 30% on pre-paid excess baggage and pre-paid express check-in service.
Customers booking their tickets through IndiGo website and mobile application can avail additional cashback when paying through MobiKwik wallet and digibank debit card, the airline said.
IndiGo's move comes amid a dip in airline capacity in recent months. The capacity reduction, due to halting of operations by Jet Airways and the grounding of Boeing 737 Max aircraft by SpiceJet, has exerted an upward pressure on fares.
Last week, national carrier Air India had decided to offer "hefty" discounts on last-minute sale of tickets. A statement from Air India said that people booking tickets at the last minute are often faced with very high prices.
"Such high prices are a deterrent and the national carrier has, therefore, decided that... available seats within three hours of departure would be sold at a hefty discount, normally exceeding 40% of the selling price," the statement added.
