Rajkot trader booked in bogus billing racket

Rajkot: The state goods and service tax (SGST) officer has registered a complaint against city-based trader Shailesh Rathod accusing him of being involved in bogus billing racket and causing loss to the tune of Rs 2.67 crore to the government exchequer by way of tax evasion.

According to complaint, Rathod who had taken the TIN number during the VAT era for his firm was found involved in bogus billing of cement, paper waste and wood items.
The department had found that from April 1, 2014 to March 31, 2015 Rathod had only issued bills but did not supply the goods thereby evading tax of Rs 2.67 crore. VAT officials said that Rathod cheated the government by only issuing bill and providing opportunity to other traders to claim bogus tax credit based on the bills.
