The consignment including 474 fiction, non-fiction, practical and children’s books, packaged in 5 boxes weighing over 230kg, was handed over to the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development on Tuesday, 30 April, 2019.

This gesture forms part of the airline corporate social responsibility initiative to support learning and development amongst the young Seychellois citizens, in addition to building awareness about the importance of reading and further encouraging the general population in joining the national ‘Education – A Shared Responsibility’ initiative.

Odile De Comarmond, Principal Secretary for Early Childhood, Primary and Secondary Education, stated: “Air Seychelles’ support in the transportation of the books is testimony of the organization’s commitment towards the enhancement of education in Seychelles.

“Such gesture should inspire other organizations to be part of our campaign of ‘Education – A Shared Responsibility”.

Remco Althuis, Chief Executive Officer of Air Seychelles said: “Education is the responsibility of everyone and we are proud to support the ‘Education – A Shared Responsibility’ programme.

“Books promote the importance of reading plus language development. The best way for one to instil good values and communication skills, which are important tools required upon joining the world of work, is through reading.

“Therefore we are delighted to play an important role in the education and upbringing of the young generation as part of our corporate social responsibility and also extend our support towards the socio and economic development of the country”.
